Seven reasons your website gets traffic but not enquiries

Traffic without enquiries usually means the site is not doing the specific job of turning attention into action. Here are the seven causes we see most often.

Traffic without enquiries usually means the site is not doing the specific job of turning attention into action. Here are the seven causes we see most often.

Traffic is only the first half of the job. If sessions are climbing while your enquiry count sits still, the problem is almost never the amount of attention you are buying — it is what happens in the thirty seconds after someone lands.

1. The page does not say what you do fast enough

Visitors decide whether to keep reading in about eight seconds. If the first screen leads with a slogan instead of a plain description of the service and who it is for, most people leave before they reach the part that would have convinced them.

Write the headline as if you were answering a stranger at a barbecue: what you do, who you do it for, and the outcome they get.

2. There is no obvious next step

Pages that offer five equally weighted options convert worse than pages with one. Pick the single action that matters most — book a call, request a quote, start an enquiry — and make every other link visually secondary.

3. The proof is missing

People do not buy claims, they buy evidence. Before-and-after numbers, a short client quote next to the relevant service, and a clear description of your process all reduce the risk a visitor feels.

4. The form asks for too much

Every extra field costs you completions. Ask for what you genuinely need to write a first reply, and collect the rest in the follow-up conversation.

5. Mobile is an afterthought

Most service businesses now get the majority of first visits on a phone. Test on a real device: tap targets, form keyboards, sticky call buttons, and how far someone has to scroll before they see a reason to stay.

6. Speed is quietly killing the funnel

A page that takes four seconds to become usable loses a meaningful share of visitors before they see anything. Compress images, defer non-critical scripts, and measure with real-device data rather than a desktop connection.

7. Nobody is measuring the right thing

If your reporting stops at sessions, you cannot tell a good month from a lucky one. Track form starts, form completions, calls and qualified enquiries so you can see exactly where people fall out.
